Cattle Agribusiness Course
Portfolio: Risk Prevention
Project Title: Cattle Agribusiness Course
Status: In progress
Overview: Funded by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), this effort will focus on the creation of a national livestock education training program that will provide specialized educational opportunities for state and federal regulatory animal health officials in the form of one-week short courses. The program will be developed with the overall goals of enhancing the emergency management competencies of state and federal animal health officials, protecting the well-being of U.S. beef and dairy industries, and increasing the capabilities, capacity, and readiness of the agricultural community in the face of looming disease threats. This project will lay the foundation for a training program that will be:
- Customizable for major U.S. livestock species
- Readily adaptable to be incorporated into current USDA course offerings and/or training activities
- Scalable and thus capable of being expanded based on changing circumstances and future training needs of animal health officials
- A model for future regulatory animal health short courses
