Project Title: OIE Veterinary Paraprofessional Project
Status: Complete (2019)
Overview: Since 2016, the Institute of Infectious Animal Diseases (IIAD) has partnered with the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) to develop standards for educational and training guidelines for veterinary paraprofessionals on a global scale. The project’s overarching goal is to support the development of a cadre of veterinary paraprofessionals that can be utilized in the workforce pipeline for Veterinary Services in OIE Member Countries.
In collaboration with OIE via the ad Hoc Working Group on Veterinary Paraprofessionals, IIAD has provided subject matter expertise in the development of core competencies and curriculum guidelines for Veterinary Public Health, Laboratory, and Animal Health-focused veterinary paraprofessionals.
To support the development, validation, and dissemination of these standards, IIAD has also collaborated with the OIE to analyze existing veterinary paraprofessional curricula, competencies, and learning objectives, and conduct curricula validation missions in three OIE Member Countries.
