High Containment Laboratory Workflow
Focus Area: Risk Prevention
Project Title: High Containment Laboratory Workflow and Optimization Case Studies
Status: Complete (2020)
Overview: Advances in information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) offer organizations the opportunity to identify new approaches for executing mission requirements, support optimization efforts, and gain insights from data in order to drive value. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) and its partners operate facilities that rely on IT and OT that provide critical scientific functions that support prevention, detection, response, and recovery for catastrophic events. These unique operating environments require experimentation and analysis to identify requirements and challenges, options for prototypes to elicit use cases, considerations for refining operational and technical specifications, and opportunities to optimize workflows.
Project Duration: 9/27/2018 – 9/26/2020
IIAD Project Team: Carrie Hunt, Matt Cochran
Outcomes, Solution, & Impact:
- Delivered a set of three case studies assessing how organization design, human capital, and IT/OT may improve high containment laboratory workflow, business processes, safety, and overall laboratory capability
