Project Title: Frontline In-Service Applied Veterinary Epidemiology Training (ISAVET) – Uganda & Senegal

Status: Complete (2018)

Overview: IIAD’s international collaboration with FAO and public health agencies is intended to develop a self-sustaining Frontline ISAVET among African countries currently identified under the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) initiative supported by the U.S. government.  Frontline ISAVET will build transferable skills for frontline veterinarians and strengthen country and regional capacity to improve health and prevent and control disease at the human-animal-wildlife interface. Ultimately, the Frontline ISAVET will strengthen public health, animal health and wildlife disease programmes by strengthening early disease detection and rapid response.

Outcomes, Solutions, & Impact:

• Uganda & Senegal Frontline ISAVET Workshops
  • Trainee self-ratings on the selected set of veterinary epidemiology skills were very similar between the two cohorts, both at pretest and posttest, illustrated by Table 1.

• • Knowledge of veterinary epidemiology concepts covered by the Frontline ISAVET workshops were measured via 3 weekly knowledge assessments during each week of the classroom training, increase in weekly knowledge assessment scores from pre to posttest can be be seen in Table 2.
