Strengthening Vet Health Systems for African Trade
We are pleased to announce the successful completion of a project funded by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and implemented in partnership with the African Union–Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR). This initiative focused on strengthening animal health systems and regulatory capacity across the African Union.
Through this project, the Institute supported capacity building for the development and implementation of risk- and science-based policies and regulatory measures, aligned with international standards and SMP-AH protocols. The work focused on advancing regulatory best practices and supporting countries in applying harmonized approaches to animal health governance.
The overarching objective of the project was to harmonize animal health and sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) processes, contributing to improved animal health outcomes, enhanced animal production, and strengthened intra-African and international trade.
We are proud to have contributed to efforts that promote regulatory coherence, system resilience, and sustainable growth within the African Union’s animal health and food systems. This project represents an important step in advancing coordinated, standards-based approaches to animal health and trade across the region.
