Project Title: Bioinformatics and Executive Laboratory Management Training – Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute

Overview: IIAD, in partnership with BM Martin Laboratory Consultants, conducted a training program with 4 senior executive-level veterinary diagnostics laboratory managers from Bangladesh during September 2016. The customized 2-week training program was delivered via face to face workshops. Training program objectives were (1) to strengthen capacity for sample collection and receiving, diagnostic processing, laboratory management, quality management systems, and tracking and reporting of disease information. (2) to build capacity for trainees to disseminate the training program to future cohorts.

Outcomes, Solutions, & Impact:
- The workshop increased participant knowledge of laboratory management. Trainees demonstrated a 40.0% increase in knowledge of key laboratory management topics at 6-month follow-up versus the course pre-test.
- Participants are implementing their knowledge and skills. 100% of participants indicated that they use information from the workshop every day.
- The training has improved workplace operations. 100% of the trainees indicated that their participation in the workshop led to improvements in workplace operations, specifically in areas of records management, budget management, test report preparation, and the development of a national laboratory network.
- Participants are training others in laboratory management. One additional training event has been held for 30 individuals, thus increasing the reach of the program and contributing to a more competent laboratory workforce.
